Strategic leadership and its effect on innovation and performance in Nigerian industries

This study investigates the impact of strategic leadership on organizational innovation and performance within selected industries in Lagos State, Nigeria. The research addresses a gap in understanding how strategic thinking and leadership innovation influence organizational outcomes in dynamic business environments. Objectives include examining the relationship between strategic leadership and organizational innovation, evaluating the effect of leadership innovation on performance, and exploring mediating factors that enhance or hinder strategic leadership effectiveness. A descriptive survey research design was utilized, targeting
management staff from Twenty-Five (25) companies in the technology, healthcare, finance, and manufacturing sectors. The findings revealed a positive relationship between strategic leadership and organizational innovation, with strategic thinking and leadership innovation significantly enhancing organizational performance. The study concludes that fostering strategic thinking, promoting innovation, and ensuring adequate resource allocation are essential for optimizing leadership impact. Recommendations include investment in strategic leadership development, fostering an innovation-friendly culture, and enhancing communication to align leadership goals with organizational objectives.
